Mike Andrews LLB (Hons), LLM, Chief Executive Officer, THE NAPIT Group

As Chief Executive of the NAPIT Group, an organisation committed to promoting trade competence, it is difficult for me to overstate the importance of providing access to the right training. In fact, the continuity and expansion of NAPIT Training’s portfolio of courses is central to our ability to offer such an outstanding end-to-end service to improve levels of competence and raise standards throughout the industry.

Our training division allows us to meet our ongoing commitment to improve standards across the building services and fabric sectors – and ensuring we have the right team in place to take responsibility for it is a key component of our success as business.

I am therefore pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Collinge to Head of Training. Michael has consistently demonstrated his expertise and dedication and I have every confidence in his ability to drive our training offering forward. To mark his appointment, Michael will provide an overview of his background and his vision for this exciting role.

Head of Training Michael Collinge

I have had the pleasure of working for NAPIT for the past 12 years – a period of phenomenal growth and progress.

I started out as a Sub-Contract Field Officer in late 2004 and have held a number of different roles within the company since, so it is with notable pride and excitement that I now take on this role.

In the past I have carried out all manner of electrical work, from design through to commissioning and handover, across the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors. And working with a number of major organisations, including: the University of Central London, British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL) and Jaguar cars has given me a great platform to progress.

Following an industry career spanning over 15 years, in 2001 I made a career defining move into further education, forging a path that has led me to where I am today. I worked in numerous colleges and training centres in the north and the midlands, building up my experience and leading me to work for some time as a self-employed education consultant.

In my previous capacity as NAPIT’s Regional Inspections Manager for the North I had the chance to teach and present at seminars across the country, reigniting my passion for the education. I also had the opportunity to sit on a number of influential IET code of practice committees, including: the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Technical Workings Group for LED, Photovoltaics and D.C. Voltage in Buildings.

I will continue to attend prominent committees on a range of subjects, such as the upcoming energy storage code of practice, and this part of my role will become more important, helping NAPIT to develop into new markets.

With these solid foundations of industry, technical and educational experience to inform my approach, I’m keen to make my mark.

NAPIT already has a fantastic offering, with centres across the country and expert-led training in everything from electrical inspection and testing to solar PV and even locksmithing. But I know that we can improve this still further in the years to come.

I am therefore keen to ensure we continue to enhance and adapt our portfolio of courses to meet the demands of today’s complex marketplace.

I aim to expand our offering and presence nationwide through the growing network of approved NAPIT Training centres to cater for installers working in both established industries and emerging markets. And, with the support of an outstanding team, I am committed to cementing the NAPIT Training brand as a name installers across the country will instantly associate with training excellence.
